High school, GED and college students may submit applications through March 31, 2017 for the summer jobs program of Mobile Housing Board.
SWEET-P JOBS OPEN TO MHB PUBLIC HOUSING, SECTION 8 YOUTH
Mobile Housing Board (“MHB”) will accept summer jobs applications from the agency’s Public Housing and Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program participants through March 31, 2017. Students ages 16-23 may apply for various summer jobs through the agency. Applicants must be currently enrolled in high school, a GED Program, or college and must have at least a 2.0 grade point average for the past two semesters, or a cumulative 2.0 GPA. The jobs program is an incentive for students to do well in school.
Applications are available on this website (above), at the Property Manager’s Office within each of MHB’s Affordable (or Public) Housing Developments, MHB’s Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Office at 1517 Plaza Drive, and at the Clinton L. Johnson Center for Economic Development at 1655 Eagle Drive, located off Michigan Avenue near I-10 and Brookley Industrial Complex.
The summer jobs program is called SWEET-P – Summer Work Employment Experience Training Program. It is sponsored by MHB and SWEET-P Investment Partners who sponsor and/or provide on-the-job training opportunities for students who participate. The eight-week program provides student workers with pre-employment (soft skills) training, as well as 24-40 hours per week of on-the-job training in the public and private sector. To ensure program success, SWEET-P advisors visit job sites to offer assistance to the student workers and their supervisors, if needed. Occasionally, companies and agencies hire SWEET-P participants on a regular part-time or full-time basis. For more information about SWEET-P, call (251) 470-1728.
